Bauhaus translated means "construction house". The Bauhaus Art School was created in the spring of 1919, by Walter Gropius. The Bauhaus Art School was founded on the belief that "There is no essential difference between the artist and the artisan" and that art had a social role as part of everyday life. It's a statement that broke through the wall between the fine and the applied arts and is the precursor to the Maker Movement of today's technological revolution. The school was the launch pad for Europe's most experimental creatives in the 20's and 30's and its influence can be seen in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Blackwing 155 pencil is a tribute to the Bauhaus School and its devotion to craftsmanship and innovation. Each pencil houses a soft graphite core, Blackwing's first-ever black eraser clip, and a colourful design inspired the legendary Bauhaus style. Though it closed with the onset of WWII and only 155 students graduated from the school, its impact on how we embrace art in everyday life lives on.

This pencil is the perfect companion for the artistic soul who revels in "living in colour".
