April is Poetry Month
Do you listen to CBC Writers & Company? Although Eleanor Wachtel broke our hearts last year when she announced the retirement of the show, we've been graced with ongoing archive episodes and specials each Sunday. If you do listen, you may have recently heard her mention that April is Poetry Month and her interview with poet Alice Oswald.
You may recall me sharing earlier that I enjoy poetry. Many other Figg Street Co. customers feel the same way, and some even write poems of their own. The shop vibrates with creative energy whenever we're a meeting place for artists, which makes my heart sing.
While our stationery shop provides a bounty of resources to inspire creativity, we also see poetry at play throughout the region. There are local poetry slams held regularly in downtown St. Catharines. Our local libraries, such as the Welland Main Branch, host poetry events, including opportunities to share poems and meet local poets. There are also specific evening features, such as this Friday's Voices & Verses program at The Bank Art House in Welland, devoted to this year's theme: weather. Poets presenting there include Laura Lane, CD Onofrio, Cat Skinner, Mori McCrea, Susan Smith, Carla Hartsfield, and Keith Inman. (Click here for more information.)
