I wouldn’t be surprised to hear this year’s gardening season called a late bloomer. Nevertheless, I’m happy to see spring blossoms and flowers arrive! There are several trees and shrubs currently blooming: forsythia, magnolia and tulip trees to start. Ornamental fruit trees, such as cherry blossoms, are beginning to show colour. On the ground are an assortment of spring bulbs: hyacinth, daffodils, muscari, and tulips, among others.

It’s both reassuring and uplifting to see all these cheerful flowers greeting us! Since our region is one of the warmest in the country, we have a happy selection of gardens, parks and related events to attend. When you come to Figg Street Co. on Saturday, May 9th, considering stopping at the Thorold Garden Club Plant, Bake & Yard Sale before or afterward. It’s taking place just a few blocks away in the Club Belvedere parking lot from 10am to 2pm.

The Tulip Festival is happening now until May 17th in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This multi-week event includes workshops, music, yoga, picnics, and more taking place on a 55-acre tulip farm. One of the workshops is about flower pressing. If this interests you, you may want to see one of Figg Street Co.’s featured items this week below.

There’s also the second annual Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom Festival taking place over four days: Friday, May 8th through Monday, May 11th. This floral and garden show will feature expert garden talks, guided workshops, boutique vendors at the garden fair, a luncheon and gala dinner. Local designers’ work will be shown and the event will be hosted by gardening expert Frankie Flowers.

Feeling floral? Here are a few flower and garden themed items from the shop to kick off the spring floral parade:

We hope you’re as excited about spring as we are here at the shop. The freshness and new life at this time of year is unparalleled.

Thank you for spending a few minutes with us today. If you attend any of the local gardening events this spring, we’d love to hear about it when you’re in the store!
