What on earth?
Today, April 22nd, is World Earth Day. When it comes to our precious planet, there are so many aspects that merit attention: water, sky, and soil. There are processes and activities that affect the health of our home. The more things going on that tax the planet, the fewer natural resources there are for the future. So one thing we can all do is make whatever we already have last longer. It's a counterpoint to designed obsolescence, commonly applied in the tech and electronics sector.
By learning to care for, maintain, and repair items we regularly use, we extend their lifespan. We also develop new and valuable skills in the process. One event we can attend to get help with things we have that need fixing is Repair Café Niagara.
Repair Cafés take place around the world. In Niagara, we have our own local chapter that periodically holds events throughout the region. They're a wonderful way to connect with others in our community and bring new life to a moth-damaged sweater, broken toaster or a damaged tool. While you're spring cleaning, see if you come across anything that would benefit from some skilled attention and then take it to the next event. You'll be doing something good for yourself and the environment. To find out details, see our Reverie section. You can also learn more at your local library.
At Figg Street Co., we've a few items that may aid you with your spring cleaning and minor repairs you may be making:

Have you started your spring cleaning? Do you have items in your fix-it pile? We'd love to hear about your experiences with Niagara's Repair Café if you go, and we're happy to help you with any organizational tools and tips in the shop!
