How did you spend your Thanksgiving weekend? We hope it was everything you wished for and more! This past long weekend really drove home that autumn is here. The leaves are only beginning to change colour, but there are a few that have fallen and we can sense the promise of peak fall colours arriving soon and hear the rustling of leaves underfoot.

The cooler air and fewer hours of daylight also make me nestle into the indoor comforts of this season. Things like candlelit dinners, cozying up with a blanket, and reading or watching a comforting story or two. It’s a time to rummage through family recipes and drink hot beverages sprinkled with spices. Nesting can include creating things at home in the kitchen or making crafts for upcoming holidays and in preparation for wintertime.

What sorts of things do you enjoy doing in the autumn when you want to feel cozy? How do you make such an atmosphere come to life? Do you consider music, lighting and fragrance? What about textures?

We often hear people discussing tv shows and movies that evoke fall-time to them in the shop: the Gilmore Girls, Harry Potter, Charmed, Derry Girls, The Hobbit, and Wednesday, for example. Some favourites are not necessarily related to fall-time but have a familiarity or comforting quality to them that makes them feel fitting to this time of year. British mysteries, bake-off shows and Only Murders in the Building come to mind.

Here are a few things at Figg Street Co. that help us nestle into autumn:

We hope this issue has you considering all the things and people in your life for which to be thankful. Over the weekend, I reflected on the simple and the quotidian in my life: the bounty of food I can share with others in a peaceful, happy environment. Breathing. A pillow and a bed to rest my tired body, and the sound of birds singing.
