Hello September! It’s that time of year again, when we hear school bells ringing and see children gathering and wearing backpacks outside. Even for those who’re no longer in the classroom, the days after Labour Day can feel nostalgic and significant.

While students study a wide range of subjects, one of the things that adults look back at and recall with wisdom is not what was taught, but how one’s thinking was shaped. Many of us can recall a teacher, classmate, or experience that taught us something that forever changed our worldview.

Schooltime is fruitful with all sorts of learning and development. Even, and perhaps especially, challenges can glean insights into our character, our strengths, our weaknesses, and discoveries about how to overcome obstacles.

Are you or your children returning to the classroom this fall? Are you someone who’s not returning, yet feels the pull of enrolling in an evening course or taking part in something new to stretch yourself?

We’ve been seeing several people in the shop who have mixed emotions about the return to school season. Some relish it and are eager for autumn. Others are daunted by their upcoming courseload. Some are long out of school yet have created for themselves a ‘back to school’ routine each fall that is dedicated to personal growth.

We appreciate all paths to higher learning and education at Figg Street Co. To help you prepare, we’ve restocked some of our scholastic favourites and brought in some new items this year that will get you started on the right foot.

We hope this issue of Tuesday’s Tonic has given you pause for thought to prepare yourself for the new things you’re bound to learn and discover in the coming weeks. It’s remarkable how much we each learn and grow in our lives!
