One of the joyful realities of late winter is the increasing daylight we experience. You may have noticed this recently, as sunrise times become earlier and sunset moves later into the evening.

Another common occurrence at this time of year is the craving for colour. After weeks of snowstorms, ice, and cold weather driving us indoors, many of us are led by the lighter days outside and seek colours other than the ubiquitous grey and brown we’ve been living in during the season.

March is a time ripe for dopamine dressing and splashes of colour. Among the most lively of hues are neon and glow-in-the-dark materials. If I were to buy any neon clothing, I think it would be a running jacket. Then I’d have the bonus of safety since I’d be clearly visible to cyclists and drivers! A bright accessory like a scarf might be fun, too.

We see the movement to bright things in other areas of life, too. At Figg Street Co., we notice customers gravitating toward colour at this time of year. Stationery is an easy and fun place to experiment and play with different hues. It’s cheering to add a vibrant pop of colour to writing tools and items we use regularly.

Which items and colours lift your spirits? Here are a few things at the shop that give us cheer:

We hope the increasing daylight is drawing you outdoors and lifting your spirits. March is a time of great fluctuation and transition, so we’ll no doubt be seeing signs of life and vibrant colours in our parks and gardens in the coming days.
