April Fools!

Has someone played a trick on you this morning? Or did you manage a gag on someone else? We won't be playing any tricks here; however, we do love laughter and the many things that can lead to it.

It seems that laughter is welcome at any time. Well, except for those times when it's inappropriate; which, let's be honest: can be when something funny turns up and the inappropriateness of it all can make the situation extra-funny. Tell me you know what I'm talking of here. I can't be the only one who had to stifle a giggle during a serious event.

Laughter can ease tension, releasing us from wound-up, negative feelings. I'm reminded of the beauty of humour when I think of Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve. They were close friends who met at Juilliard, where they were roommates. After Christopher was thrown from his horse in 1995 and was in the hospital, his spirits were low. One day a doctor came into his room and said he was about to perform a rectal exam. Alarmed, he looked over and realized it was his friend Robin dressed up as a proctologist. They shared his first laugh since the accident and he later credited this moment as being the first sign of hope in his recovery.

It's true that day-to-day, too many of us get wound up and take things too seriously. Life is better when we're at ease with ourselves and able to bring a smile to those around us. Who doesn't love to laugh?It’s medicine for our body, mind, and soul.
